5 best autumn/winter art trends for 2019

It’s happening! The weather is starting to turn cold and the leaves are beginning to change colour and fall, meaning one thing - it’s time to start thinking about new autumn/winter art trends.

This year, it’s all about warm colours, patterns, natural forms and sophisticated minimalism. We have put together some ideas for you to transform your interior in time for the changing seasons.

Peacock Blues

This summer was all about light blue hues and it’s only fitting that as the weather gets cooler and the days get darker, this has developed into darker shades of dusky, peacock blues. This shade goes perfectly with both lighter shades and rich golds and silvers for a more opulent look.

Krista McCurdy’s cyanotype and lumen prints, made using real botanical foliage, are perfect in both colour and subject matter for a more autumnal interior. Click here to view more of Krista’s artwork.

Natural Greens

As the leaves turn orange and brown, bring a little green back into your palette by introducing mossy shades and deep emeralds into your interior. Robbie Chapman’s ‘Green Path’ acrylic painting is perfect for any autumnal interior and we love Heike Roesel’s abstract fine art etchings for bringing a bit of colour back into your home.

Patterns, patterns , patterns

Don’t be afraid to mix and match this season. In fact, we are fully embracing contrasting patterns this season, and lots of them. Don’t worry about going over the top - by using complementary colours for your artwork, you can avoid an extreme clash.

Coordinating artwork with similar coloured and styled soft furnishings and decor will ensure that your space has more decorative cohesion.

Natural Forms

This season, art is taking a more ‘natural’ form. Think botanical, anatomical and animal prints. Trends this Autumn mostly seem to be inspired by mother nature and by pairing artwork with natural textures and materials like wood, terracotta and concrete, your interior will be both elegant and eco-friendly.

Baron Visi’s tree paintings will certainly add a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ to any interior. Shop Baron’s paintings here.

Sophie Green’s animal prints will also fit into any nature-inspired interior and 10% of all profits go to animal charities. Shop Sophie’s prints here.

Sophisticated Minimalism

Our final trend this season is one that has stuck around for a while and is still going strong. It’s hard to go wrong with a sophisticated minimalist look. Minimalist art is the perfect way to calm down a busy interior and for more simple spaces, adding a splash of colour will help to brighten up a muted palette.

Courtney Bae’s figurative pieces combine both natural forms and minimalism. Shop Courtney’s originals here.
